| Description: The Birches is a fairly large, 4-bedroom, 2-story house that can sleep 8-12. It`s in a quiet, woodsy neighborhood very close to Bar Harbor and to Acadia National Park. With large back and side yards, it boasts a cozy hammock swinging under lovely birch trees, a picnic table, plus room for croquet, badminton and other games. The ground floor has a 14 X 20 living room, two charming bedrooms with a connecting bathroom. One has twin beds, the other a full. A sliding glass door off the dining area opens onto a beautiful large (250 square feet) deck, with a lovely view of the park loop road and, part of the year, Cadilac Mountain. There is a barbecue grill there, and comfortable outdoor furniture. Upstairs are one large bedroom with a queen and full-size pullout futon, and another bedroom a queen. There is a common bathroom off the hall with tub/shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, toaster oven, microwave, and coffee maker. Highbrook is a quiet, extremely convenient neighborhood, 3-minutes from town by car, 10 by foot. Entrance to the park is 2 minutes or less by car. The house is very private, with no real sight lines to neighbors in any direction. Directly across the street are only trees. Located on Mt. Desert Island, off the coast of Maine, about 40 miles from Bangor, Bar Harbor is one of the premier summer destinations in the world. To get to the Birches cottage, take I-95 from Boston to Bangor, and Rt. 3 through Ellsworth. As you come into town on Rt. 3, you just take a right on Highbrook directly across from the College of the Atlantic (just before the Highbrook Motel). Follow Highbrook up the hill, and take a left when Highbrook curves in that direction (if you continue straight, you`ll end up on Cleftstone). 17 Highbrook is the third house on the right. |
