Wetherledge: An Elegant Summer Estate Built in 1889! This breathtaking estate sits high on a ledge with commanding views of Newport and Narragansett Bay. Designated as the "Officer's Club" during WWII, this very private home remains surrounded by a hundred acre state park. Fifteen themed rooms available, filled with Victorian antiques. From the summer porch swing, one can watch the fabulous parade of yachts sail past. This estate is the perfect Summer escape--giving you quiet time and easily accessible to all of the activities that Newport has to offer. Wetherledge Estate- Mainhouse & Gatehouse Main house-has a beautiful cobble stone driveway and is surrounded by incredible grounds. We won second place of 2000 in garden design at the Providence Flower Show. In the main home there is a large kitchen, laundry room, butler’s pantry, billiard room, entertainment room, dining room, living room, sunroom, large screened in porch, three full baths and five bedrooms (two queens and three doubles). The home sits high on a hill and looks across at Ocean cliff, Castle Hill and Hammersmith Farm, formerly John F. Kennedy and Jackie O’s summer retreat. Gatehouse The gatehouse is a charming stone cottage set in amongst gardens. The first floor has an open floor plan with living room, dining room and kitchen. Off of the kitchen is a bathroom and laundry/mud room, which can be exited through a one-car garage. The second floor has three bedrooms (queen, double, and trundle) and a full bath. The maximum overnight occupancy for the main-house is ten people and for the gatehouse is six people. Social gatherings of more than eighteen people require Lessor’s advance approval in the main house and twelve people for the gatehouse. Both homes can be rented for reunions or corporate retreats. For wedding functions at Wetherledge it is required that both homes are rented for a minimum of a week. For an event there is a function fee.
