La Casa Dos is a wonderfully friendly and inviting casita, a romantic getaway for any time of the year. Adjacent to the larger house Esqueredo (shown on this website) it is situated right in the most picturesque and ancient part of the enchanting village of Fornalutx. This historic pueblo - known as "the village of a thousand years" - was built around a 10th century Moorish tower. It has commanding views of the valley, with its orange groves and olive terraces climbing high into the backdrop of the formidable Tramuntana mountain range.

From the tiny cul-de-sac of Carrer des Vent (translation "The Road of the Wind") you enter through large wooden doors into a Mallorcan-styled cobbled Entrada, now made cosy with a dining area and wood-burning stove. Off this is a small but well-equipped kitchen with washing machine. A charming traditional stairway of olive wood and terracotta treads, set off with antique ceramic facing tiles, leads up to the comfortable sitting room, with its handsome fireplace. The bathroom, with a spacious shower, is beautifully appointed with mellow terracotta tile and wooden doors. The charming double bedroom is located on the top floor and benefits from large, picture windows leading to an enclosed terrace with views up to the mountains. Thanks to the large windows, the same view can be admired from the pleasant sunny interior. Every level of the casita is tiled in traditional terracotta.

This is a very sheltered house, both in summer and winter, with new roofs providing insulation. There is a large, fully retractable sun awning for the terrace. The bathroom plumbing and electrical supply have been newly installed. (220v / 50Hz.)

Utilities are included in the price.

For a larger party (6/7 persons) La Casa Dos can be added to the adjacent house Esqueredo. Although separate,La Casa Dos can intercommunicate through the top terraces to make one large house. Both houses can be rented on a daily basis (3 day minimum) and therefore may be added for only a part of your stay to accommodate additional guests.

The nearby town of Soller (Sóller) displays a wonderful air of grace and dignity, with its charmingly faded mansions bearing witness to the affluence that both the citrus trade with France and an historic weaving industry granted. This affluence provided for a private steam railway to be carved through the mountains in the late nineteenth century, which in turn became one of the first electric railways in Spain in the early part of thiscentury. This valley glowed with the light of chandeliers when, in other areas of Spain, electricity was an unobtainable dream. The weaving mills have given way to pleasant leisure pursuits. Now the rickety train ride is an enchanting option to the new, fast toll-road tunnel linking Soller to Palma, as the vintage wooden rolling-stock winds unhurriedly over splendid viaducts and past the sensational vistas.

An equally charming antique tram runs regularly between Soller’s town centre and the Port of Soller, meandering through the huerta of Soller, the gardens and lemon groves of this picturesque valley. The Port itself, an attractive sandy cove with its tiny beach restaurants and unpretentious bars, offers boat trips, fishing, sailing, swimming and windsurfing.

La Casa Dos is designed for a couple. Add E15 per night / E75 per week for an additional person.

All prices include laundry and end-cleaning services and a "meet and greet" by the House Manager, along with a descriptive tour of the property and a welcome gift of wine and oil. For stays 10 days or more the housekeeping services include a full mid-stay/weekly clean and change of linens & towels.

Deposit for pets or children 10 or under. We accept deposits by Visa & Mastercard PLUS 5% handling charge(billed in US$ at the quoted "Mid-market rate"). Late/last minute bookings welcomed. No "change-over" day or "week-unit booking" policy. Bookings can be weekly and/or daily (minimum 3 days.)

Why Rent from Property Owners?

Have you every wondered why the vacation rental property where you were staying was so expensive? Most lodging accommodations rented through property managers charge you for the rent, their expenses, overhead, and profit. Property managers or agencies are typically business units of real estate agencies who manage vacation rentals, flats, pensiones, etc., for owners, in their local area. The house, condominium, villa or whatever that you rent has to be cleaned and maintained, resevations have to be taken, travel agencies require referral fees, etc. - just like at hotels and motels. For instance, a condominium owner in Destin, Florida doesn't have the advertising budget that a vacation rental property agency representing hundreds of properties does. Florida has thousands and thousands of rental properties. So, the owner does a couple of things to make their property more attractive to prospective renters. First, reduce the price relative below similar properties in the area. Second, use the internet to get the word out. It wasn't long ago that being able to reach a worldwide customer base was unthinkable. Now, by using the internet, the owner can "show" their property to renters in France, South Carolina, California, Hawaii, Portugal or anywhere in the world and you can contact them directly.

Renting from owners also has other advantages. Typically, owners renting directly, rent their "homes". This means that you will find much more personalized and even eccentric living environments. You will also find more convenience and personal items for your use. And, when you contact the owner, they can usually direct you to local events, happenings and places of interest that the typical tourist would not be aware. It's almost like knowing someone where you are going. So, go ahead and ask questions of the owner. You will find that most owners take pride in their property as well as its location.
